Republicans Say The Darndest Things ... Okay, They Say Stupid Shiz

If you don’t believe Republicans are out of touch, just take a look at their healthcare bill ... pregnancy is a preexisting condition, erectile dysfunction is not ... poor people lose healthcare, rich folks get a tax break.

‘Nuff said; or is it?

But, if you’re one of those folks who still believe the GOP is what’s best for you and this country—even ignoring that Asshole in the White House—let’s take a peek at Idaho Republican ... because, of course ... Congressman Raul Labrador who proved, he proved it, that he has no idea how healthcare works, or, perhaps, even what it is.

At a Town Hall, Labrador sparked outrage from the crowd, both in person and online, when he said "nobody dies" for lack of health care.

Yes, he did.
Labrador, a member of the conservative House Freedom Caucus—an oxymoron, considering they’re Republicans— made the comments on the heels of Paul Ryan’s GOP-boner inducing passage of that awful health care bill in response to this:
"You are mandating people on Medicaid accept dying. You are making a mandate that will kill people."
And Raul Labrador said:
"No one wants anybody to die. You know, that line is so indefensible. Nobody dies because they don't have access to health care."
Again ... yes, he did.

And, according to an American Journal of Public Health study, conducted at Harvard Medical School and Cambridge Health Alliance, uninsured, working-age Americans have a 40% higher risk of death than their privately insured counterparts.

Huh; so they die because they don’t have access to healthcare, Raul.

Dr. Andrew Wilper, the lead author of that study:
“The uninsured have a higher risk of death when compared to the privately insured, even after taking into account socioeconomics, health behaviors, and baseline health. We doctors have many new ways to prevent deaths from hypertension, diabetes, and heart disease—but only if patients can get into our offices and afford their medications.”
Seriously, Raul, I’ve been around a while and I’ve heard Republicans says the darndest things, but you take the cake; I mean, why not step away from the tribe mentality of the GOP, stop goose-stepping along with the other morons, and educate yourself. Maybe then you’d be better suited to help your constituents, which, if you haven’t forgotten, is your job.

Oh, and to those of you represented by Labrador in Idaho ... Resist.

  3. I watched the video of that Town Hall. I was stunned speechless when I heard Labrador make that statement.

  4. It seems axiomatic that any group which has 'Freedom' in the title will actually be of the most reactionary and controlling nature you can imagine. For many years in Britain we had the existence of 'The Freedom Society' which was the most censorious, extreme right-wing organisation in existence.

  5. Sadly, like Tom Price in the US, we in the UK have a Health Secretary determined to destroy the public health system, and we have so much more to lose.
