Two Ends Of the Spectrum

Health Care reform passed the House. Yes, it was good. It was also bad, and pathetic.

The good was Joseph Cao, a Republican from Louisiana, who is the sole, the sole, Republican to vote for the Health Care Bill. And why did he do it, you ask? Cao says his decision was driven by his conscience and the needs of his district, of the people who elected him, and not back-room dealing with the White House or Democrats.

"I had to make a decision of conscience based on the needs of the people in my district....I had to make a decision and I felt that last night's decision was the right decision for my district, even though it was not the popular decision for my party."

Voting your conscience, and doing what the people who elected you asked of you. How amazing. And sad that we should think it amazing; it should be like this all the time. We need more Joseph Cao's on both sides of the aisle, and we need less of John Shadegg.

You might have heard of Asshat John Shadegg, Arizona Republican, over the weekend. He's the one who brought a baby, an infant, into the House and then proceeded to tell you what the baby wanted.

"This is Maddie. Maddie likes America because we have freedom here and Maddie believes in patient choice health care. She has come here to say she doesn't want government to take over health care. She wants to keep her plan. Maddie knows if this bill passes, she knows her mom's health care will go away and won't be around for five years. If the bill passes then no more health care for her mom because it has to change. Maddie wants patient choice. She doesn't want her mom's premiums to go up. She doesn't want her mom's taxes to go up by $730 billion, do you, Maddie?"

You know what I think, Shadegg? I think Maddie wants her diaper changed because it's starting to stink and she isn't sure if it's her, or you.

You ought to be ashamed of yourself, Shadegg, for your cheap theatrics when what we need is honest open debate. You ought to be ashamed of yourself, Shadegg, for using a child in such a disgusting manner. You ought to be ashamed of yourself, Shadegg, for putting your own partisan words in the mouth of a child.

Go HERE to tell John Shadegg what you think of his stunt, or.......

Go HERE to tell Joseph Cao you appreciate him voting conscience instead of party.

  1. Cao showed us that there are actually people out there that take their elected responsibility in the way our founding fathers intended.

  2. I hope Maddie grows up and runs for office as a Democrat.

Yes, that's what we elect them to do - vote based on what their constituents want but also to make choices that are in the best interest of citizens the way Cao did.
